"Total Slatted":
- most modern
- total confinement
- slatted flat floors
- forced ventilation (fans)
- fans banked to direct airflow- "tunnel ventilation"
- inlets (at opposite end of building from fans) used to control air velocity
- ventilation system provides high degree of control over environment-->less variation in performance, fewer disease problems
- so high operating costs are justified
