General Information: All underlined, blue text are links. Clicking on them with the mouse will take you to another page within the surgery web, unless otherwise stated (e.g. the Links page). The surgery web is divided into 6 sections: Surgical Instruments, Preparing the Equipment for Surgery, Preparing the Patient for Surgery, Preparing the Surgeon for Surgery, Sutures and Suture Handling, and Links. By clicking on any one of these headings you will see what's contained within that section.

Navigation Pointers:  There are 3 ways of navigating through the Principles of Surgery Web Site.

  1. Start at the homepage and click on the section heading that contains information which you are interested in. From there you can continue to click on the links until you find what you are looking for. This is probably the best method for newcomers to go through the site.
  2. If you click on the Contents button, located on the top of every page, you can go directly to the Table of Contents. The Table of Contents lists all sections and links within those sections. You can then click on any specific page contained within the 6 sections and go directly to that page.
  3. If you click on the Index button, located at the top of every page, you can go directly to the Index. The Index is an alphabetical listing of key words that will enable you to search for specific information directly. By clicking on the word you are interested in, you will go directly to the page that contains information on that key word.

Navigation Bars: At the top, and sometimes the bottom, of every page are "buttons" located within a navigation bar. All of these buttons will link to other pages on the web, depending on which one you click on.

Previous - will take you to the previous item within that section. It will not always take you to the previous screen, because there are many links to each page. If you wish to go back to the previous screen, use the "back" button in your web browser

Next - will take you to the next item within that section.  When you reach the last item in a section the next button will take you to the Homepage

Home - will take you to the Principles of Surgery Homepage

Index - will take you to the Index

Contents - will take you to the Table of Contents

Help - will take you to the Help page of the Principles of Surgery Web Site

Project Directory - found only on the homepage, it will take you to the CAL Homepage

Viewing Movie Clips:  The movies in this project are best viewed with the QuickTime 4 browser plugin on a Windows PC.  QuickTime 4 on a PC can view ALL of the video clips.

Some videos may be seen with older QuickTime plugins, but not all of them.  If you see a blank movie playing, you will need to upgrade your QuickTime plugin.   If you are on a Mac, you may also need the Intel Indeo v3.2 video codec to view the "CD quality" videos.
