Submitting your sample

Microtainer tubes are used for storing and submitting blood samples. There may not be enough blood to run all the tests that you would like, so be sure to know how much sample your lab requires, and prioritize your diagnostics accordingly!

Blood is generally submitted as smears on slides and in purple or green top microtainer tubes.

Chemistry Panel

It is common to use plasma to run chemistry panels in very small animals because the yield of plasma from a volume of blood is greater than the yield of serum. Samples for chemistry panels are submitted in green-top microtainers.
