  • Etiology

    • acute gastritis:

        • viral - parvo, distemper, corona, panleukopenia, hepatitis viruses

        • bacterial - salmonella, campylobacter, E. coli, helicobacter

        • parasistic - Physaloptera, Ollulanus

      • dietary

        • indiscretion

        • plants

        • spoiled food

        • dietary hypersensitivity

      • toxic

        • NSAIDs

        • glucocorticoids

        • heavy metals

        • cleaning agents

        • some antibiotics

    • chronic gastritis (if over 3 week duration) characterized by:

      • type of cellular infiltrate

      • area of mucosa affected

      • severity of inflammation

      • mucosal thickness

      • topography
