The text search engine allows queries to be formed from arbitrary Boolean expressions containing the keywords AND, OR, and NOT, and grouped with parentheses. For example:
- male pseudohermaphrodite
- finds documents containing 'male' or 'pseudohermaphrodite'
- male or pseudohermaphrodite
- same as above
- male and pseudohermaphrodite
- finds documents containing both 'male' and 'pseudohermaphrodite'
- male not pseudohermaphrodite
- finds documents containing 'male' but not 'pseudohermaphrodite'
- (male not pseudohermaphrodite) and female
- finds documents containing 'female', plus 'male' but not 'pseudohermaphrodite'
- male*
- finds documents containing words starting with 'male'
