• Case #2

There are a number of orthopaedic diseases that comprise a comprehensive list of differential diagnoses for lameness in the growing large or giant breed dog. Elbow dysplasia should be on this list if the lameness involves the forelimb. The term elbow dysplasia encompasses the specifc diseases of ununited anconeal process (UAP), fragmented medial coronoid process of the ulna (FMCP) and OCD of the elbow. Each may be present alone or in combination in the diseased elbow. Some clinicains believe that the etiology of most pathologic changes in the elbow are related to asynchronus growth of the radius and ulna, originally called distractio cubiti. This mismatch in growth is what leads to elbow incongruency. The two cases presented are representative of syndromes in elbow dysplasia.
