Taylor, a 2 year old male yellow lab, is presented to the ER clinic at VHUP during your morning shift. The owner tells you that while loading up his truck to go fly fishing the dog ran out into the street and was hit by oncoming traffic. The dog was evaluated and all systems were stabilized. Neurologically the dog appeared normal. He was non-weight bearing on his left hind limb and marked swelling was noted in the quadriceps region. Pain medication was administered and an orthopedic examination was performed. Crepitus was noted on palpation of the left femur and a fracture was highly suspected.
