Laboratory 13 : Tract Systems II
  Visual Tract

Visual Tract

It is important to note that:

  • Visual input from right visual field all goes to left DLG and visual cortex, and vice-versa.
  • Visual input from rostral colliculus (SC) also goes to visual association cortex via pulvinar (PUL) and lateral posterior nucleus (POL) for motion and spatial information.

Slide 78 : Telencephalon

  • Info from retina comes via optic chiasm from opposite nasal retina and ipsilaterally from temporal retina to optic tract

Slide 70 : Diencephalon

  • Info carried by optic tract to lateral geniculate nucleus (DLG)
  • OT info also carried toward rostral colliculus (SC) & pretectal nucleus (PTN)

Slide 60 : Midbrain & Diencephalon

  • Info from DLG to visual cortex (conscious sight)
  • Info from PTN to EW (miosis) & sympathetic trunk (mydriasis)
  • Info from SC to nuclei of CN III, IV & VIto move eyes
  • Info from SC to tectospinal tract for head orientation
