Kit is a 17 year old Thoroughbred mare.

The mare presented with a 2 week history of significant respiratory distress when ridden at the trot.  At the onset of the respiratory distress the mare was febrile for one day but has been afebrile since.  An examination by the referring veterinarian had revealed a loud systolic murmur, crackles in the right ventral lung field, a rapid heart rate of 60 beats/minute and frequent premature beats.  The mare improved slightly with trimethoprim-sulfa therapy but remained severely exercise intolerant when ridden at the trot and her tachycardia and premature beats persisted.
