How to Download Netscape for Windows 95
- Download the newest version of Netscape from
http://www.mozilla.com.
- You will have to input information about your system:
- Desired Product: Netcape Navigator 3.0 (or whatever is highest if you prefer)
- Choose Netscape Navigator 3.0 Minimum for basic Netscape.
- Choose Netscape Navigator 3.0 Standard if you'd like all the bells and whistles.
- Be warned! Beta versions support the newest features but also often have bugs, some of which
may crash your system. It is safest to download version 3.0!
- Choose Netscape Navigator 3.0 for the bug-free commercially released version.
- Operating System: Windows 95
- Desired Language: U.S. English
- Your Location: North America
- Click on the button to display the download sites.
- You will be brought to a new page with a long list of FTP sites.
- Select an FTP site.
- Try a site close to you first. If you cannot connect to that site, try another.
- Peak traffic hours are 11 am to 2 pm.
- The file will begin to download to a location of your choice: C:\windows\desktop\ is a good place because the icon will appear on your desktop, but any folder will do. Just remember where you download it to!.
- Once the file is downloaded, you will have to unzip it using WinZip or pkunzip.
- Launch WinZip and open your archive (the file that ends in .zip)
- It will "explode" the archive contents and reveal new files.
- Double click on the setup.exe file. Setup.exe may be available in WinZip directly or you may have to navigate to your desktop (or navigate using the Explorer to whatever download folder you chose)
- Clicking on setup.exe runs the installer program. Follow the on-screen instructions.
- You may select a folder for Netscape to be installed into. It is easiest to let Netscape select one for you.
- When setup is complete, you will have the option to go to netscape.com and download plug-ins.
- We recommend that you get Macromedia Shockwave.
- You can now drag the Netscape files and zipped files (or your download foler) to the trash.
- You should now have a Netscape Folder available under your Start Menu.
- You can navigate to the Netscape program file (in the Netscape folder) using Explorer and make a shortcut to it for your Desktop.
- Or you can launch Netscape by navigating to it through your Start Menu. It's up to you.
- Double click on your new Netscape icon to launch Netscape Navigator and modify the preferences (under the options menu).
That's it! Enjoy your new Netscape!
