How to Download Netscape for Power Macs

• Download the newest version of Netscape from http://www.mozilla.com.
  
  1. You will have to input information about your system:
     • Desired Product: Netcape Navigator 3.0 (or whatever is highest if you prefer)
       • Choose Netscape Navigator 3.0 Minimum for basic Netscape.
       • Choose Netscape Navigator 3.0 Standard if you'd like all the bells and whistles.
         • Be warned! Beta versions support the newest features but also often have bugs, some of which may crash your system. It is safest to download version 3.0!
       • Choose Netscape Navigator 3.0 for the bug-free, commercially released version.
     • Operating System: Macintosh
     • Desired Language: U.S. English
     • Your Location: North America
     
     
  2. Click on the button to display the download sites.
     • You will be brought to a new page with a long list of FTP sites.
     
     
  3. Select an FTP site.
     • Try a site close to you first. If you cannot connect to that site, try another.
     • Peak traffic hours are 11 am to 2 pm.
     
     
  4. The file will begin to download - probably to your desktop. If you are in a school lab, the file may download to a folder called "Netscape Receive Files".
     
     
  5. Once it is downloaded, it should unstuff itself automatically leaving you with two files on your desktop:
     1. Netscape-3.0-Installer (or, for example, Netscape 2.02-Installer if you downlaoded version 2.02)
     2. Netscape3.00Installer.hqx (similarly, this could be Netscape2.02-Installer.hqx)
     
     
• Double Click on the Installer program (not the file with the .hqx extension - you can trash the .hqx file).
• You may select a folder for Netscape to be installed into. It is easiest to let Netscape select one for you.
• Read and follow the instructions in the installer program.
  • For example, you may have to close Netscape before installing the program.
• When setup is complete, you will have the option to go to netscape.com and download plug-ins.
  • We recommend that you get Macromedia Shockwave.
• You now have to make an alias to the Netscape program file if you would like to have a Netscape icon on your desktop.
  • Highlight (click on once) the Netscape program file from the hard drive listing.
  • Go under the file menu at the top and select "Make Alias".
  • Drag the alias (it will be in italics) to the desktop.
• Drag the installer and the .hqx file to the trash.
• Double click on your new Netscape icon to launch Netscape Navigator and modify the preferences (under the options menu).
