Sagittal Section of the Equine Larynx
Review of cartilages seen in this view.
The equine arytenoid cartilage has bilateral corniculate and vocal processes (see above), as well as lateral muscular processes (not visible).
The cricoid cartilage forms a ring that is wide dorsally and narrow ventrally. It articulates cranially with the caudal cornu of the thyroid cartilage and with the arytenoid cartilage.
The equine epiglottic cartilage has bilateral cuneiform processes that project dorsally (not visible).
The thyroid cartilage consists of right and left laminae that are united ventrally. Each lamina has a rostral and a caudal cornu (not visible).
