•Signalment: 2-year old, male, Boxer
Presenting Complaint: vomiting, diarrhea, weight-loss, respiratory distress.
History: Sherrington had been vomiting for 3 days prior to admission.
He hunted normally on the weekend and was noted to be chewing on a deer carcass on Sunday. Sunday evening after the hunt, Sherrington ate a small amount of dog food but then vomited the entire meal sometime overnight.  The dog appeared tired and lethargic and was immediately taken to the referring veterinarian's clinic Monday morning.  The vet noted a 2.7 kg weight loss from 6 weeks previous and treated the dog with IV lactated Ringer's solution, penicillin, and enrofloxacin.  No vomiting was noted by the referring vet until the following afternoon.  A CBC and chemistry profile showed all values within normal limits except BUN: 40 (ref. 5-25).  Fluid and antibiotics were continued until admission to your hospital.
