MASTITIS PROBLEMS ON DAIRY FARMS

1.  The bulk tank SCC is too high.  If the bulk tank SCC is high, the farm may have trouble consistently staying below 750,000 SCC/ml and shipping grade A milk.  These producers need immediate help or they will not be able to continue to ship milk.  Some producers are not in danger of being degraded, but they may not consistently get a premium if their somatic cell count is not below 200,000 SCC/ml.  These producers want help in keeping their somatic cell below 200,000 SCC/ml on a routine basis.

2.  In some herds, the SCC is okay, but there may be too many cows with clinical mastitis.  In these herds, the bulk tank SCC can be either high or low.  Often the clinical mastitis is environmental in origin.
