LARGE ANIMAL EMERGENCY SERVICE SURGERY REPORT

It was decided to perform a standing repair. The mare was sedated with 2mg detomidine and 2 mg acepromazine. The wound was lavaged with dilute betadine. Several moderately large branch vessels required ligation with 2-0 Vicryl. The extensor muscles were intact but a moderate portion of the superficial pectoral muscle was severed. The wound extended down to the dorsal medial aspect of the radius and up to the joint capsule of the elbow itself. A defect could not be found in the joint capsule.
