It is unlikely that the endoscope would be used during the initial moments of an emergency colic. However, it would be helpful in diagnosing gastric disorders such as bot larvae, gastric ulceration or neoplasia. These problems are more likely to be chronic in nature and may involve weight loss as a symptom.
