Febantel Chemical group: Pro-benzimidazole Trade name: Drontal Plus* Mode of action: Binds to tubulin subunit and interferes with microtubule formation Pharmacokinetics: Metabolized in the liver to fenbendazole, oxfendazole, oxfendazole sulphone and at least 7 other metabolites. These may circulate in the blood, but most leave in the bile. Dose: 25 mg/kg (PO) (Drontal Plus) one dose (3 doses (SID) for Giardia), Toxicity: Acute toxicity: LD50 in dogs is over 10,000 mg/kg. Oxfendazole is teratogenic in rats and sheep. Parasite Targets: Ascarids, hookworms, Trichuris vulpis., Taenia sp., Giardia sp.
