Leiomysarcoma

A malignant neoplasm composed of smooth muscle (erector pili muscle).

Gross Appearance:

Histology:
•Can be well-differentiated 
•Or can be composed of small round cells which bear little resemblance to the straplike appearance of smooth muscle
•Or, most commonly, somewhere in between
•Cells show moderate pleomorphism 
•Increased nuclear to cytoplasmic ratios
•Variable numbers of normal and bizarre mitoses
•Many cells retain their characteristic cigar-shaped nuclei
