Granular Cell Tumor

A tumor of presumptive Schwann cell origin characterized by cells with distinctive cytoplasmic eosinophilic granules which are variably PAS positive.

Gross Appearance:
•Solitary, ill-defined masses
•Require histopathologic evaluation for diagnosis

Histology:
•Tumor cells are round
•Small vesicular nuclei
•Granular eosinophilic cytoplasm
•Well-defined cell borders
•Little nuclear pleomorphism
•Mitotic figures are rarely found
•PAS positive
•Ultrastructurally, granules are large membrane-bound autophagic vacuoles that contain cellular debris
