Nodular Dermatofibrosis of German Shepherds
(MULTIPLE CUTANEOUS FIBROMAS)

Clinical Findings:
The tumors are of importance because the syndrome is characterized by bilateral multifocal renal cystadenocarcinomas and bitches also develop uterine leiomyomas.  Primarily reported in the German Shepherd breed but may also be found sporadically in other breeds.  An inherited condition with features similar to "Tuber Sclerosis" in humans and in the rat.

Gross Appearance:
•Range in size from 2 to 4 cm in diameter
•Present in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue
•Predilection for the lower limbs, head and back; but may be found all over

Histology:
•Same as for fibromas
