Basal Cell Tumor

A benign neoplastic proliferation of epidermal cells that recapitulates the basal cell layer of the normal epidermis.

In the present classification system, the tumor that was previously described as a basal cell tumor in the dog and the spindle cell type basal cell tumor in the cat have been reclassified as Trichoblastomas. Please refer to that section under follicular tumors.

This is now a very uncommon tumor in the dog with the reclassification of canine basal cell tumors as trichoblastomas.
