Isthmus Cyst
A simple cyst lined by cells which resemble the middle segment of the anagen follicle and the lower segment of the catagen follicle.
Gross Appearance:
Histology:
•Cyst is lined by stratified squamous keratinizing epithelium
•Lacks a granular cell layer
•Keratinocytes above the basal layer have an abundant pale eosinophilic cytoplasm
•Intercellular bridges are difficult to identify
•Cyst contents are less eosinophilic and less compact or laminar than those of an infundibular cyst
