Meibomian Epithelioma
A tumor of low grade malignancy arising from the Meibomian glands with a preponderance of basaloid cells with few sebocytes and ducts.
Gross Appearance:
Cannot be differentiated from Meibomian Adenomas.
Histology:
•These are identical to those described for sebaceous epithelioma:
•Preponderance of basaloid reserve cells
•Sebocytes seen as individual cells within the tumor mass or as small aggregates
•Basaloid cells may show marked mitotic activity
•Little nuclear atypia
•Foci of ductal differentiation are found as horn cysts
•Variable degree of melanization
•Melanin granules primarily found in basaloid cells
•Dendritic melanocytes may be interdigitated between tumor cells
•Melanophages may be found in the interlobular stroma
•Lymphatic invasion may occasionally be found at the periphery of a sebaceous epithelioma
