Liposarcoma

A malignant tumor of lipocytes with variable pleomorphism and little or no collagenous stroma.

Gross Appearance: 
•Vary in color from white (similar to lipomas) to orange or green 
•Areas of hemorrhage and necrosis


Histology:

•Highly cellular tumor
•Degree of differentiation is variable

Well differentiated type 
•Closely simulates a lipoma

Pleomorphic type
•Marked degree of nuclear and cellular pleomorphism 
•Intracytoplasmic lipid vacuoles
•Mitoses are common and often atypical

Myxoid type
•Lipocytes lying in a myxoid matrix
•Pleomorphic type
•Marked degree of nuclear and cellular pleomorphism 
•Intracytoplasmic lipid vacuoles
•Mitoses are common and often atypical
