Infiltrative Lipoma

A variant of lipoma characterized by sheets of well-differntiated adipocytes that invade adjacent muscle and fascia.

Gross Appearance:
•Have the gross appearance of other lipomas
•Infiltration of the adjacent connective tissue and muscle by the tumor tissue

Histology:
•Resemble lipomas
•Pre-existing connective tissue and/or muscle are entrapped by the lipocytes

Prognosis:
More likely to recur at site of excision (than lipomas) due to the infiltrative nature of the tumor.
