PANCREAS

DX:  Severe pancreatic necrosis and peripancreatic fat necrosis with suppuration and saponification

DESCRIPTION:  No viable pancreas is recognizable.  There are large zones of acutely necrotic acinar tissue associated with peripancreatic fat necrosis, an infiltrate of neutrophils, and saponification.  Some vessels in the area have fibrinoid necrosis of their walls and intraluminal fibrin thrombi.
