Welcome to CAL!

CAL is the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine's Computer Aided Learning program. CAL projects are designed to supplement the veterinary curriculum offered by the School and provide the students with an alternative to traditional lectures. By providing the projects via the WWW, students may review the projects as often as they want. The graphics, video clips, case study formats, and the interactive nature of the projects help to actively engage the student in the learning process.

CAL project proposals are submitted by faculty members to the CAL committee, usually in the spring. The CAL committee reviews the submitted ideas, chooses a number of them, and hires veterinary students to work on the projects during the summer. Working on a CAL project greatly enhances a student's knowledge of the project subject area. Students receive independent study credit for their work in addition to pay. The faculty sponsor's responsibilities include providing information and images needed for the project, following the student's progress, reviewing and approving the work done and participating in periodic review and update sessions. The update sessions include all CAL students and faculty.

With more than forty five web and multimedia-rich programs on topics ranging from histology to veterinary medical genetics, from small animal cardiac surgery to swine production, Penn Vet's CAL program brings the best of instruction to the web.
